Maybe you’re so not familiar with Lazio but you know its famous capital, Rome, and some of its well known dishes like penne arrabbiata (“angry pasta”) and saltimbocca (“jumps in your mouth”). I’ve been there many times, it’s worth the trip just to visit the local osterie, where you get some of the best Italian comfort food you’ll ever try (but maybe not the lightest).

Rome is the eternal city, it never stops eating, I hope you can come along!

Here is a sample menu:

Focaccia Barese (of course)

Pomodori ripieni (tomatoes stuffed with rice, basil, romano cheese)

Parmigiana di carciofi (artichokes parmigiana)

Baccalà fritto (fried cod)

Mini saltimbocca alla romana (veal with sage and prosciutto fried in butter, Madonna!)

Spaghetti "cacio e pepe" (romano cheese and black pepper)

Penne all'arrabbiata (spicy tomato sauce)

Porchetta di Maiale (homemade porchetta style roast)

Fagioli al rosmarino (beans with tomatoes and rosemary)

Insalata (a salad to bring you back to life)

Semifreddo ricotta e fragole

BYOB - To pair with your meal I suggest something regional from Lazio, like a nice Merlot or Sangiovese from Aprilia, or a white from Frascati.
