Featuring Olive Oil Sommelier Elena Lepori
During my cooking classes and supper clubs people often ask questions about buying olive oil and pairing it with food. That’s why I’m excited to announce this special event with olive oil sommelier and Lugano Fine Foods owner Elena Lepori.
Elena imports a wide variety of high quality extra virgin olive oils (EVOOs) from all over Italy. She works closely with her partners, small family-run businesses that grow, harvest and bottle their own oils to ensure quality and transparency at every step of the process.
Elena will share her approach for selecting EVOO producers to work with – not an easy task when you consider there are 20 regions and more than 600 varieties of olive to choose from. She’ll also share tips for buying EVOOs, talk a little about the different taste profiles the oils we are featuring, and how to pair them with foods.
As for me, I will talk a little about how we bought and consumed olive oil back in Italy when I was growing up. My home region of Puglia is the biggest oil-producing region in the country and it was definitely a big part of our diet and culture.
