At my events people often ask for advice about buying and using extra virgin olive oil, so I’m very excited to announce this special evening with Italian food expert and olive oil producer Gaia Massai.
Gaia imports wine and olive oil from her family farm in Tuscany, and is a regular lecturer at the Italian Institute of Culture here in Toronto. Here are some of the topics she will discuss:
A brief history of olive oil
Olive oil in the world and in Italy today
Health benefits and nutritional facts
How to buy, store and cook with olive oil
How to taste olive oil
During the event we will sample Gaia’s own olive oil, and several others from different regions of Italy, including my uncle Vincenzo’s organic, pesticide-free oil from Bitritto, my hometown in Puglia.
Here are the dishes I will prepare to accompany the tasting:
Fagioli Con Crostini (Tuscan-Style Beans With Herbs & Olive Oil)
Cavatelli Con Pomodori (Homemade Pasta With Tomato, Basil & Olive Oil)
Branzino al Sale (Salt-Crusted Seabass)
Torta Al Limone (Lemon Olive Oil Cake)
I hope you can join us, it's going to be a fun and informative evening!
As always please bring a nice bottle of wine to enjoy with your meal.
